Speed control and descent profiles Jets

Training only

Simplified: no wind, standard atmosphere, sped up 30×. Speed changes take time: slowing at half a knot per second with the nose up (500 fpm), speeding up with the nose down (1500 fpm more). Pitch is exaggerated so it’s easy to see. It plans to slow to 250 kt by 10,000 ft (500 fpm while slowing), then descends at 250 kt and 1500 fpm, whatever the set speed. Rates: 250 kt 1500 fpm (about 2.5°), 280 kt 2500 fpm (about 3°), 300 kt 3000 fpm (about 3.5°), 320 kt 4000 fpm with speedbrake (about 4.5°). The IF is 10 NM from the runway on a 3° ILS, flown at 160 kt.
